flat heads are good for a hard hitting pellet at close range



imo pointed pellets are usless, their not as accurate as domed pellets, neither are flat heads but that doesn't matter at close range.



hollow points can be used in the same manor as flat heads.
The best pellet for hunting small game is by far the JSB Predator Polymag. It combines expansion, penetration annd accuracy into one pellet. These are pricey so if on a budget then i would suggest Beeman Crow Magnum. It has a huge forward expansion cup to expand into the vitals. I have had good expiriences with this pellet on squirrels in my Storm out to 20 yards. good luck



Never use pointed pellets to heart shot game, they will pass straight through your animal and not make a clean kill. But if you headshot the then you can use a pointed pellet. "Generally" speaking for small game such as rabbit and squirrel, domed pellets are the most effective, because they have the highest ballistic coefficient they hit harder and penetrate deeper. And since you should, in the vast majority of cases** be making head shots. You need the penetration for a clean, humane kill.
