Hunting game is what I am wanting to do by using a .308. What would be a decent scope to use?

I am looking for scope information as I want the best usable amount of light coming in as well as great accuracy. I need only credible responses.Hunting game is what I am wanting to do by using a .308. What would be a decent scope to use?
Standard hunting scope is a 3x9 x 40mm with 1 inch tube and you don't need anything fancy like mil-dot and Bullet Drop Compensation, they just get in the way. Get a Nikon or Leupold with a duplex reticle or fine reticle.

Get the shop you buy the scope from mount the scope with Leupold bases and rings. They should do that as a free service if you buy the scope and bases there. Again, a solid name brand scope, nothing fancy, you will never use the fancy stuff.
pal, unless you're wanting to spend close to $1000 dollars for just the scope, i would stay away from the zeiss and swarovski scopes. a nikon monarch is a wonderful scope, and it is a little pricey ($400), but it is great. you can get a cheaper one like the nikon prostaff if thats a little too much. but probably the best thing to do is go to a few different gun shops and figure out which one has the best prices/selection, and ask a sales rep that knows what he/she is doing

oh, and a 4x-12x is the best range for a .308, because its a flat shooting gun that can go a loooooong wayHunting game is what I am wanting to do by using a .308. What would be a decent scope to use?
Light transmition is great and all, as long as you get a trusted brand, (the other suggestions are perfectly valid) don't forget to look at dimensions.

For instance, a 4x50 (4 times magnification, objective lens is 50 mm) will gather more light then a 4x40, 4x40 will gather more then a 4x32, so on and so forth, because the objective lens can pick up more light with it's larger diameter, it is a big factor to consider (pardon the pun)

hope that helpsHunting game is what I am wanting to do by using a .308. What would be a decent scope to use?
In my opinion, the 3-9 x40mm is the best all around scope. Only a few people are good enough shot to take one that requires more than a 9x magnification. Most people who would take a shot at that range will miss or if they hit the animal they will not strike the vital organs and cause the animal undo suffering. the 3x will allow you to find targets in close (under 100 yards) where most of your shooting will take place. the 40mm reticule will gather a good amount of light. There are many 3-9x40mm scopes out there. Be weary of the cheap scopes like BSA. Plan to spend at least $120. My leupold 3-9x40 was about $200 but it was well worth it. Also, I hear the bushnell trophy is a good scope and those can be found for about $100 before tax. I cant say I could ever justify spending more than $500 on a scope, but that is just my opinion.
A Leupold vx111 2.5-8 x 36 will do most people but if you need absolutely the most light transmission try the vx111 3.5-10 x 50. I would go with the 2.5-8 though as the lower bottom end will be better for snap shooting and 8 power is all you need for long range on medium game. You get what you pay for with scopes and if you want top end then look at Nightforce 2.5-10x32, you won't find a better scope than that one (for medium game).
A Zeiss Diavari scope is always good I have dropped my rifle and the zeiss scope that I have was stilll driving tacks at a hundred yards. A cheaper option is the Leupold vari-x III. I must say that the zeiss picks up ligth way better than the leupold, i can see clearly on with a full moon with my zeiss.
Whats your budget?....... If you have a large budget surely consider Nightforce or Swarovski.....

schmidt%26amp;bender, ziess, swarovski, top scopes look for 30mm main tube .$$ 1600.00- 2600.00. if that's alil high in $$ bushnell, nikon,bsa,400.00 - 1100.00. still look for 30mm maintube. but your best bet is to go to sportshop look thru scopes find the reticle you want there are many various styles.
Leupold scopes are by far the best scopes for the money!!!
Swarovski is the best optic brand there is. This only my opinion but.
